About the Role

Description
The CAD Custom Project Designer will focus on the design and development of new motor assemblies, part designs, change management and implementation. This individual will utilize Lin standard “design validation & verification” process by applying Computer Aided Manufacturing CAM for actual CNC G-code through a basic Mastercam process to prove the design is achievable and manufacturable. They will ensure the workflow runs smoothly, maintain systems that are in place and build standard CAD processes, review output for quality control, track performance and manage CAD software. Other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO :
· Drive the six sigma techniques to improve and control procedures of engineering ISO and ECN
· Improve design standard to minimize RMA and MRR.
· Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems.
· Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include concept, design, fabrication, test, operation, and maintenance.
· Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints through ECN’s database flatform.
· Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into motor specifications.
· Design and develop new motor products - 3D CAD models, drawings, proof of concept studies.
· Create drawings, Bill of materials (BOM) development, and interface with other teams to establish manufacturing processes, supply chain development, and inspection criteria.
· Interface with supplier factory teams; conduct design reviews (part design, tooling, etc....) for quotes, part, and tool development, and participate in first article inspections for part approval.
· Assemble, test, and perform design analysis of FUTT (First Unit to Test) prototypes.
· May participate in design for manufacturability & effects (DFMEA) analysis.
· Performance testing and specification definition of products.
· Supply technical support to Manufacturing, Design engineers and the Purchasing Team.
· Facilitate Engineering Change Notices (ECNs)
· Evaluate competitive products and prepare reports that detail opportunities for improvement.
· Participate in product field failure (RMA) analysis.
· Monitors CAD workload and provides training and guidance to CAD team.
· Performs quality checks and feedback to CAD team.
· Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor's degree (BS) in Mechanical Engineering from a four-year accredited college or university; 3 to 5 years of experience working in a product design and engineering change management role.
· Worked in a product design and manufacturing environment for 3-5 years as a design engineer developing mechanical products that included high volume part design using various manufacturing methods outlined below. Motor design knowledge is highly desirable.
· Good understanding of the following manufacturing processes as it relates to part and assembly design - die cast, injection mold, machining, and stamping.
· Proficient with MS Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, Power point, and MS Project.
· Proficient in Computer aided design software tools - Solid works, Autodesk, Pro/E, Inventor, or similar mechanical design software.
· Proficient in Computer aided manufacturing CAM software – Autodesk Fusion 360, Computer aided manufacturing using MASTERCAM software
· Meets or exceeds performance factors indicated on Performance Appraisal form. Demonstrates and abides by the Company Core Values and operating principles.
· Supports Lean implementation using such lean methods including but not limited to: Process Mapping, Visual Management, Workplace Layout, Standard Work and How to Reduce 7 Wastes.
· Establishes and maintains effective channels of communications with managers, co-workers, affiliates, vendors, and all other business contacts.
· Uses equipment and materials in a safe and acceptable manner, follows established safety procedures, uses appropriate safeguards, and observes common sense rules of safety in all on-the-job activities.
