Position Objective: If you’re a coffee connoisseur with latte art skills or interested to learn with a love of all things coffee and food, we want you! We are searching for Baristas who have exceptional customer service skills, can thrive in a fast environment, can clearly and positively communicate with fellow team members, and ideally have knowledge about specialty coffee drinks. Experience preferred but we are also willing to train the right person! The Barista will prepare and serve hot and cold beverages, including various types of coffee, espresso drinks, tea, and fresh pressed juices. Barista responsibilities include educating customers on our beverage menu, making recommendations based on their preferences, up-selling special items, and taking drink and food orders. We are looking for someone with great customer service skills and an outgoing personality. You should be able to work various days & shifts. Ultimately, you’ll ensure an excellent experience for our guests.
Essential Job Functions
• Welcome and greet all guests in a friendly and upbeat manner as soon as they enter
• Prepare and serve juices, coffee, and tea drinks; following standardized recipes, customize specialty drinks as requested
• Serve prepared foods and baked goods; may include sandwiches, muffins, croissants, and other pastries
• Provide excellent and efficient customer service
• Properly operate espresso machine, roaster, juicer, and all other related equipment
• Able to steam milk and learn latte art.
• Weigh and wash fresh produce
• Juice, mix, and bottling cold-pressed juices
• Clean machinery and work area after juicing
• Restock coolers, and take inventory as directed
• Provide excellent customer service to all guests, clients, and team members. Communicate professionally and clearly with guests, coworkers, and managers.
• Must be willing to learn about coffee, drink and food preparation, and our catering products.
• Must enjoy and be able to succeed in a fast-paced work environment while multi-tasking
• Be knowledgeable and passionate about our menu and establishment. Answer any questions the customers have about the menu
• Adhere to all food production and sanitation requirements. Clean and sanitize equipment, utensils, dishes, work, and service areas. Maintain high standards for safety and cleanliness in all areas of the property
• Transfer important information between the kitchen and the serving staff (e.g. when a customer has a particular request)
• Run food and beverages to tables as needed. Properly carry several plates and/or trays
• Complete all prep work tasks such as wrapping napkins and flatware.
• Perform all required opening and closing procedures
• Bag and haul any trash to designated dumpsters
• Handle tableware carefully to prevent breakage and loss
• Communicate any areas of need, problems, and concerns from guests to management
• Follow manufacturer and management instructions regarding the use of equipment, chemicals, and supplies
• Keep equipment in order and stored in the appropriate areas
• Operate all company vehicles at an appropriate speed and with caution
• Complete all other tasks as required by management
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Competences:
• Previous barista/juicing experience with working knowledge of coffee, teas, and juice common drink recipes required.
• Previous experience with latte art HR – 10.2023
• Must be flexible and available to work a varying schedule to include weekends, evenings, holidays, split shifts, and extended hours as business needs dictate
• Must possess and maintain a current California Food Handler Certificate
• Must possess and maintain a current California Responsible Beverage Server Training Certificate
• Understanding of health and safety rules in a restaurant
• Dexterity in using coffee and juicing machines and utensils and carrying heavy trays
• Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills are required. Communicate professionally in person and on the phone
• Maintain a neat, well-groomed appearance in compliance with the dress code
• Must be able to use time tracking software and point-of-sale (POS) system.
• Ability to work under pressure and remain calm
• Ability to anticipate customer needs and respond appropriately
• Practice safe working habits and take all legally required rest and meal breaks in a timely manner
• Ability to work in a team environment, work cohesively with co-workers and perform duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with company policies
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk around a large venue (indoors and outdoors) with heavy trays/tubs (up to 40 pounds). The employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific sensory abilities required by this job include sight, taste, smell, and hearing. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to raw meat, moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, hazardous materials, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. Other requirements include:
• Must be able to continuously stand and continuously move about a large restaurant and patio area for long periods of time while carrying items on trays including navigating flights of stairs
• Use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects and controls such as those on thermometers, equipment/machine controls, walk ins, glasses, utensils, and POS.
• Frequently lifts/carries up to 15 pounds of food or kitchen equipment. Occasionally lifts/carries up to 40 pounds
• Use legs to assist lifting heavy objects such as sacks/boxes of food.
